Hirota Karate Gi available for all of Europe”

Richard Amos sensei

6th Dan JKA, Chief Instructor WTKO

Q: How did you first come into contact with Hirota do-gi?
In Tokyo I noticed many of the younger sensei wearing Hirota gis in about 1990

Q: How long have you been using Hirota do-gis, and which model do you prefer to use?
From about 1990 or 91 and have always bought the pinac gi. Until a few years ago it was simply called 'tokubetsu kiji' which means 'special material'. They changed it about 5 or 6 years ago to an off-the-peg version. Slightly lesser quality but still better than anything else.

Q: Do you agree with the comment, "Hirota the best do-gi available today"?
I think the cut can be a little slim sometimes so I order tailor made, but, yes, Hirota is the best gi in my opinion.

Q: In your experience, what is the differente between Hirota do-gis and other brands you have used before?
The fabric of the pinac is far superior to any others I've used. It's light but is very tightly woven so is very strong and not too stiff. This makes it hard wearing of course but also easy to wash and dry.

Q: Would you recommend Hirota do-gis to other karatekas?
Definitely!
